Voting in Kansas with a Criminal Conviction

Felonies

If you were convicted of a felony in a state or federal court, you are barred from voting:

  • While incarcerated
  • While on parole
  • While on probation

Misdemeanors

If you were convicted of a misdemeanor, you never lose the right to vote.

Registering or Re-Registering Post-Sentence

Once you have completed your felony sentence, you can register or re-register to vote.

  • Vote because your voice is important and deserves to be heard.
  • Vote so that the needs of your community are addressed by those in office.
  • Vote to empower yourself, your family and your community.
  • You do not need to show any special documentation.

Register to vote at your post office, public assistance office or Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), or download a voter registration form.
